Leadership Team

We build more than your business, we build relationships. Our goal is to know you well enough to make a difference in your company and your success. Working with National Custom, you will get a team of knowledgeable experts, most with 15 years experience or more in retail and office interiors. But more than that, you'll get a glimpse of who we really are, and the peace of mind that you have found the right people for your next project.

Bill Heaner is Managing Partner and President of National Custom. Whether you find him in the office or sit down with him in a meeting, he is ready to talk about his latest big idea. National Custom's StoreReady program is just one of those, but Bill has hundreds of ideas about building and maintaining your physical space.

A 1978 Citadel graduate, Bill holds a standard of excellence in all he does. After successful engineering stints at the Army Corps of Engineers, Department of the Navy, and the Citadel (yes, he returned to work at his alma mater) he landed a management position with Western Waterproofing of America before purchasing National Custom. Since purchasing NCI, his focus has been on changing the way businesses build their space, by implementing efficiencies he has learned along the way.

Bill believes work is fun but, he does manage to tear himself away from NCI for time with his family and fishing for marlin. He can even tell you a story about the big one he let go – and he has pictures to prove it.

Peter Thomas, Executive Vice President, specializes in client relationships and delivering the happily ever after. His strengths are in understanding our client’s needs, addressing their challenges, and applying the right solutions through a streamlined and value-added approach. We know you’ve heard these words before, but Peter’s success has been getting everyone on board and actually delivering them to our clients.

A Bachelor's degree in Finance from Clemson set the groundwork for launching his 20 year account management career in the flooring industry with leaders like Milliken & Co., Lasher White and Shaw Industries. Peter then stepped up to his next challenge at NCI. He loves providing people with solutions to help build their businesses and bring their dreams to life.

Outside work Peter’s life is like an adventure novel, conquering anything competitive, golf, hoops, even team handball, (word is he’s a former national champ). His storybook life would not be complete without his beautiful wife and three lovely girls.

Mary Lou Heaner While the rest of us are working to bring in business, manage projects, and deliver customer service, Mary Lou is behind the scenes actually running the company. After all, somebody needs to handle all the details Business Administration and Human Resource for National Custom, so the rest of us can do our jobs.

With a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Miami of Ohio and a Master’s in Teaching from University of Charleston, Mary Lou does most of the planning, organizing, implementation and follow up of all the details at National Custom. Mary Lou is the perfect combination teacher and leader, motivating the rest of us to give nothing less than our best in all we do.

Mary Lou is a class act that’s hard to follow. When she’s not running the office, she's keeping her home and family running. Having raised two boys, she and Bill are discovering life as empty nesters. Her love for cooking is now being put to use when she can carve out the time to entertain friends.

Dennis Janssen, is CFO of National Custom. In this position he is responsible for NCI’s  financial and accounting matters, including reporting, budget and forecasting, and the financial aspects of accounts payable & receivables, billing, payroll and cash management.
